Toxin-free skincare: 5 ways to pamper your skin with Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Today you'll find out why it works so well and, more importantly, how to use it safely in homemade beauty recipes. Your skin, hair, and even your nails will feel the difference.
Why is EVOO such a great ally for your skin and hair?

- Vitamin E: a powerful antioxidant that fights premature ageing.
- Polyphenols and antioxidants: reduce inflammation and strengthen protection against free radicals.
- Natural squalene: reinforces the skin barrier and improves elasticity.
- Oleic acid: a first-rate emollient that nourishes without leaving a heavy greasy feeling.
Quick test: check the quality of your oil

Aroma: it should recall freshly cut grass, tomato, or green almond — never rancid.
Color: ranges from pale gold to deep green; the key is that it looks clean and free of murky sediment (except in unfiltered oils, where natural sediment is perfectly normal).
Harvest date: the more recent, the better. Ideal: less than 12 months old.
Before you start: safety first
These recipes are 100% topical. Always do a patch test on your forearm 24 hours before use. If you have any skin conditions or are undergoing dermatological treatment, check with your specialist first.
- Do: use clean, sanitised utensils.
- Don't: keep mixtures beyond the recommended storage period.

EVOO in cosmetics: myths and facts

| Myth | Fact |
|---|---|
| “Olive oil clogs pores.” | A good-quality EVOO, properly cleansed off afterwards, is non-comedogenic for most skin types. |
| “You can't heat it.” | It can withstand up to 180 °C; applied warm to hair, it actually improves absorption. |
| “All extra virgin olive oils are the same.” | Variety, filtration, freshness, and storage all affect aroma, texture, and benefits. |
How to store your “kitchen cosmetics”
- Use amber glass or tightly sealed metal containers.
- Write the date of preparation on the label and discard within 2 weeks if the recipe contains water or aloe.
- Refrigerate whenever possible.
